Description

I was fascinated by this reflection nebula while doing wide field work in Scorpius and Ophiuchus, the famous Rho Ophiuchus nebula area. There almost hidden was a blue ray of light. At first i thought it was an imaging artifact. But on closer examination it was clearly a reflection nebula. I am sure that the nebula is being illuminated by a hot young star that it either totally or partially obscured by the dark star forming cloud near by.

I had an opportunity to image this area with my new CDK17 and a One Shot Color camera as part of the instrument calibration. Here I present a closer look at this unique nebula.

The inset, in this wider field of view of the Rho Ophiuchus nebula, is the object.
